No one is saying that gelato and sorbet are health foods but we strongly believe that using whole, high-quality, nutritious ingredients can go a long way towards making your favourite treat a whole lot better for you than mass produced, artificially flavoured, highly processed gelato and ice cream alternatives.

At Gelateria Gondola, we have always been committed to using the best and freshest ingredients – Sungold jersey milk, local farm-fresh seasonal produce (never processed gums and syrups), the best nuts in the world – so you can imagine our excitement at discovering Super Fruits* which are organically grown and sustainably sourced from Brazil.

Although we pride ourselves on our award-winning classic Italian flavours, we are always creating new and innovative flavours to entice our customers. You may have noticed a few new flavours in our cabinet lately like ACEROLA, CAJA and PITANGA and you can expect to see more as we continue to experiment with this exciting range of super fruits.

Allow us to introduce them to you so you know what you can look forward to:

Guava

In Australia, most people are already familiar with guava and its sweet, fragrant pink flesh. But did you know that it is native to Mexico, Central and South America? Did you also know that it is high in vitamin C, improves immunity, lowers blood cholesterol, and can even slow the ageing process.

Cajá

Cajá is a tropical fruit cultivated in Northern Brazil. It has a sweet-acidic taste and can enhance the nervous system and facilitate muscle development.

Cashew Apple

Cashew apples are antioxidant and contain five times more vitamin C than oranges, which make them an effective remedy for colds. They are rich in calcium, help burn fat and boost energy. They can even promote healthy hearts by reducing heart disease causing triglycerides.

Acerola

Acerola contains 65 times more vitamin C than oranges!! It also contains extraordinarily high levels of vitamin A and well as B1, B2 and B3. All of this makes it an excellent treatment for cold, tooth decay, gum infections, depression and hay fever. Acerola’s high antioxidant properties can help in the prevention of lung cancer, increase immunity, prevent heart diseases and improve metabolism. It can even be effective for healthy weight loss, provide firm skin and better vision.

Cupuassu

This Amazonian fruit has smells like a mixture of chocolate and pineapple, although it tastes similar to pear with a hint of banana. It contains phytonutrients polyphenols, which aren’t found in any other fruit – it is excellent for respiratory difficulties. Cupuassu is rich in vitamins A, B1, B2, B3, C, amino acids, selenium, calcium and anti-cancer properties which makes it helpful healthy weight loss, as well as healthy skin, bones, ligaments and tendons.

Cacao

Everyone knows cacao’s most popular use: chocolate! But did you know that its high levels of flavonoids are useful in lowering blood pressure and improving the elasticity of blood vessels, which helps to maintain a healthy circulatory system? Cocao is also a proven mood enhancer which can help combat depression.

Soursop

As with the other super fruits, soursop in native to the tropical regions of the Americas. It has been described as tasting like a combination of strawberry and pineapple with sour citrus notes. It is rich in antioxidants which have anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial effects.

Pitanga

Also known as the Brazilian Cherry, pitanga has a distinctly sweet and sour taste. It’s rich in vitamin C, can lower blood cholesterol, prevent heart diseases and hypertension.

We have been having a lot of fun experimenting with flavour combinations that bring out the best in these superfruits, many of which are new and tantalising to our palates. We’re excited to bring a new healthy aspect to our range of gelato and sorbet to make your favourite treat even better for you.
